Lost/Found: Dora

I didn't have many toys growing up and so I cherished the few I did and I am reminded of that every time I see a lost toy.

The Lost/Found series of toys reflects that momentary sense of wonder, sadness and regret on behalf of the child who lost it. This photo series was intended for an adult perspective; I was interested in representing the emotional transference of those ideas to older viewers in the hope they would retrace and tell their own back stories. Who did it belong to? How did it get there? Who else had seen it? Interfered with it? Ignored it? This series was a chance to play with the viewer's speculation, expectation and imagination.

Dora the Explorer was lost/found in a well frequented playground not far from my home.

Toys are merely objects, yet they can elicit powerful emotional transference in adults as much
as they do in children.

Age and experience makes
us more sensitive to speculation
for these lost/found objects. The narrative that viewers introduce
to the images they see in this
series are often deeply
personal and profound.
